DUSHANBE, January 15, Asia-Plus -- The first two-day festival of school theatrical performances was held at the Children-Youth Center in Dushanbe from January 13-14.
Senior pupils from ten Dushanbe schools took part in the festival staged by Tajikistan’s Pushkin Society.
The Pushkin Society chairwoman Tatiana German said that pupils played short performances based on works by known Russian and Tajik poets and writers such as Pushkin, Mayakovsky and Jalol Ikromi. “It was the first festival of this kind and we hope that in future, a number of festival participants will increase,” German said.
According to her, the main objective of the event was in promoting further study of the Russian language and literature in Tajikistan and raising interest of pupils in belles-letters through out-school activities.
Tajikistan’s Pushkin Society has functioned in the country since April 2006.
