DUSHANBE, February 16, Asia-Plus -- Tajik former Interior Minister Khumdin Sharipov will compete for vacant seat in the Majlisi Namoyandagon (Tajikistan’s lower chamber of parliament) in by-election in the Kulob single-mandate constituency.
Muhibullo Dodojonov, a spokesman for Tajikistan’s Central Commission for Elections and Referenda (CCER), said that the People’s Democratic Party (PDPT) had named his as its candidate in this constituency. By-election in the Kulob constituency will be held on April 1 as the incumbent, Abdujabbor Shamsov, was resigned in connection with being appointed to the post of deputy minister of interiors.
According to Dodojonov, Sharipov will compete for the seat with Saidibrohim Nazar, who has been nominated by the Islamic Revival Party (IRPT). Saidibrohim Nazar is head of the IRPT organization for the Kulob region in the Khatlon province.
The CCER official added that IRPT had also fielded Abdulqodir Hasanpour, the head of the IRPT organization for the Nosir Khusrav district in Khatlon, in by-election in Hamadoni single-mandate constituency # 35. By-election in the Hamadoni district will also be held on April 1.
