KULOB, February 26, Asia-Plus -- On Friday February 23, Emomali Rahmonov, the head of the electoral commission for Kulob single-mandate constituency # 37, required Muhammadsharif Nabiyev, the head of the Islamic Revival Party (IRPT) organization for Kulob, to submit a written permit from Tajikistan’s Central Commission for Elections and Referenda (CCER) allowing the Kulob electoral commission to accept a list of the IRPT representatives to include them on commissions at polling stations for by-election that will be held on April 1.
Nabiyev on Friday said in an interview with Asia-Plus that members of the party’s initiative group have failed to find the electoral commission chief for more than a week. “They have not been able even to make an appointment for submitting the list of our representatives to work with the commissions,” said Nabiyev, “He has avoided meeting with them on various pretexts.” “Even two phone calls from the CCER office’s head Muhibullo Dodojonov have taken effect,” Nabiyev said, noting that the list have not been accepted so far.
The deadline for submitting the lists to the electoral commission is February 25.
