DUSHANBE, March 30, Asia-Plus - The Interior Ministry department for combating drug trafficking (drug police) burned more than 265 kilograms of drugs in Dushanbe today.
The Tajik drug police chief Fayzullo Gadoyev said in an interview with Asia-Plus the drugs were confiscated by officers from the ministry of interior (MoI) in the course of 2006-2007 and were material evidences on 93 criminal proceedings instituted against 104 people.
According to him, the totaled included 100 kilograms of heroin, 100 kilograms of raw opium and more than 65 kilograms of cannabis group drugs.
The drug police chief noted that this year it was the first such burning of drugs confiscated by police.
Since the beginning of the year, officers from the MoI have intercepted more than 1,000 kilograms of drugs. Last year, some 4,800 kilograms of drugs were seized in Tajikistan. Of them, 2,442 kilograms of drugs were intercepted by police.
