DUSHANBE, April 3, Asia-Plus - Electricity supplies may possibly improve within a month, Nozirjon Yodgori, a spokesman for Barqi Tojik (Tajik electric systems) power holding, said.
According to him, following the recent heavy rains the water level in the reservoir of the Norak hydroelectric power station (HPS) has risen and it now exceeds the critical level by 60 centimeters.
The spokesman noted that all power plants in Tajikistan have generated more than 30 million kWh of electricity per day since April 1. “The Norak HPS accounts for 80 percent of electrical power generated in Tajikistan,” Yodgori said, noting that increase in electricity generation has allowed to lift electricity limitations in the capital city.
Specialists from Barqi Tojik expect the electricity supplies situation to improve in other regions of the country as well starting from the next week.
To rill in electricity deficiency Tajikistan continues importing electrical power from neighboring Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan. Over the last day alone, Tajikistan received 8.8 million kWh of electricity from these countries, according to Barqi Tojik.
We will recall that Dushanbe experienced limits on electricity usage in the second half of March in connection with low level of water in the reservoir powering the Norak HPS. That time, power supplies were reduced in some areas of Dushanbe as the water level at the Norak reservoir fell to the critical level.
