DUSHANBE, May 5, Asia-Plus -- “if the educational facility provides good education it should work but if not, it should be closed,” visiting Russian Education and Science Minister Andrey Fursenko said in an interview with Asia-Plus, answering the question about closure of Russian-Tajik Modern University for Humanities and its branches in Tajikistan.  

“We agreed at the ministerial conference here that joint commissions will vet activities of  the branches and joint educational facilities,” said the minister, “We will set up a joint Russian-Tajik commission and the branches failing to provide proper education will be closed”

We will recall that the Khujand-based Russian-Tajik Modern University for Humanities and the Dushanbe-based Russian-Tajik Modern University were closed last July for failing to meet standards of Tajikistan’s education system.  

Asked what he thinks of Tajik educational authorities’ decision to put ban on both hejab (head scarves) and miniskirts for university students, Fursenko said, “I have nothing against hejab or miniskirt but if the authorities have made such a decision, students should respect it.”
