DUSHANBE, May 14, Asia-Plus - World Bank’s International Development Association (IDA) has provided a $5 million loan to support improvement of the water supply system in Dushanbe, Jamshed Saidov, the director of the Dushanbe water supply project coordination unit, said.
According to him, the Government of Tajikistan and IDA signed an agreement on the additional financing of the Dushanbe Water Supply Project in early May.
“The loan is repayable over 40 years,” said Saidov, “The additional financing will support the costs associated with scaling up ongoing work under the Project, thus increasing its impact and development effectiveness.”
The funds will go to implementing the main components such as rehabilitation of fast filters at force (purifying) pump station, introduction of new technology of chlorinating the city''s water supply, rehabilitation of some 60 pump stations, as well as financing of institutional strengthening of Dushanbe municipal waterworks (Dushanbevodokanal or DVK, the unit director said.
