DUHANBE, May 25, Asia-Plus -- To support strengthening of Tajik border troops Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) intends to hand over two helicopters Mi-8 to the border protection directorate of Tajik State Committee for National Security within the next few months, Asia-Plus has learned from Lieutenant-Colonel Viktor Letov, a spokesman for the Russian Operational Border Group in Tajikistan.
According to him, the Operation Border Group will continue providing assistance to Tajik border troops in shipping cargoes and carrying servicemen to remote border units.
Under the bilateral agreement that was signed on October 16, 2004, the Operational Border Group of the Federal Security Service currently stays in Tajikistan to perform advisory functions, provide assistance to Tajik border guards in the effective border patrolling and training of the young generation of border guards.
