DUSHANBE, August 2, Asia-Plus — 153,645 toms of wheat for $17,744.1 and 246,962 tons of wheat flour for 36,907.9 (totaling 400,607 tons for $54,652) have been delivered to Tajikistan over the first six months of this year, Asia-plus has learned from Akram Rouziyev, the head of the food industry directorate of the Ministry of Energy and Industries (MoEI).  

According to him, Kazakhstan, Russia and Uzbekistan provide the bulk of Tajikistan’s flour and grain imports. 

Over the same six-month period, 146,244 tons of grain and 244,466 tons of wheat flour have been delivered to Tajikistan from Kazakhstan alone.    

Besides, 7,401 tons of grain and 896 tons of wheat flour have been imported from Uzbekistan, and 1,363 tons of wheat flour have been delivered from the Russian Federation.  

In the meantime, commenting on the rising cost of wheat flour in Tajikistan, experts from the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade said that the price hike has resulted from the rising cost of grain and wheat flour in Kazakhstan and the Russian Federation, which are the main trade partners to Tajik grain and flour imports.  

Thus, the price of one 50-kilogram sack of the first grade flour in Tajikistan rose from 60-65 somonis in June to some 80 somonis on August 2.
