KULOB, August 15, Asia-Plus — Cotton growers in the Farkhor district, Khatlon, started a cotton-harvesting campaign on August 14.
Rajabali Kulabekov, a chief agronomist with the Kulob agriculture directorate, told Asia-Plus that the Farkhor farmers had pledged to yield 24,000 tons of cotton this year. They have sown cotton on 12,930 hectares of land, the chief agronomist said.
In all, five cotton-growing districts in the Kulob region of Khatlon have sown cotton on 41,390 hectares of land and plan to yield not less than 79,000 tons of cotton this year.
According to Kulabekov, rates of cotton payments have already been set and cotton farmers will receive 15 dirams for one kilogram of medium-fiber cotton and 20 dirams for one kilogram of fine-fiber cotton.
“In contradistinction to the previous years, farmers will receive money without any deductions,” the chief agronomist said, adding that employees from subsidiary services (weighers, watering personnel, and others) will receive 2 dirams per one kilogram of cotton each.
