DUSHANBE, August 31, Asia-Plus — The government of Tajikistan intends to allocate 19.2 million somonis (equivalent to more than $5.5 million) to start work to finish building the Roghun hydroelectric power station (HPS), Asia-Plus has learned at the Ministry of energy and Industries (MoEI).  

The source at a MoEI said that these funds will be allocated before the end of this year.  According to him, the company to complete the construction of the Roghun will be determined in October, during the CIS summit in the Tajik capital.     

We will recall that Rashid Gulov, deputy engineer-in-chief for Barqi Tojik, told Asia-Plus on February 22 this year that the Tajik government has allocated $50 million to start work to complete the construction of the Roghun hydroelectric power station. "According to some data, another [$50 million] will be allotted in the near future. Thus, Tajikistan will begin to implement the project on completing the construction of the Roghun hydroelectric power station using its own resources," Gulov said.   

As it had been reported earlier, the Tajik government on August 29 broke a $1 billion contract with Rusal for construction of the Roghun HPS on the Vakhsh River.
