DUSAHNBE, October 3, Asia-Plus -- The CIS Executive Secretary Vladimir Rushailo has expressed hope that the upcoming CIS summit will adopt the concept of further development of CIS.
He remarked this at a news conference in Dushanbe on October 5 after a meeting with President Emomali Rahmon.
Asked about what for CIS is needed if disagreements between its member nations have become more acute and no conditions for free trade and free movement have been created so far, the executive secretary said that “such assessment is too categorical.” “On contrary, CIS has done a lot, and heads of state gathering together have already answered to the question “What for is CIS needed?”
He added that a serious was had been done to study proposals of member nations and reach compromise on some issues.
“If migration service heads have elaborated document it means that an appropriate work has been done, and as far as settlement of conflicts is concerned, staying in Tajikistan we can cite many positive examples of settlement of civil conflicts in one of the CIS states,” he said.
The executive secretary noted that in connection with the latest developments in Ukraine following the recent parliamentary elections, Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko will not attend the CIS summit in Dushanbe.
According to some, source, Ukraine will be represented by Foreign Minister Arseny Yatsenyuk.
