DUSHANBE, October 4, Asia-Plus -- The Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) should preserve its structure but change its content, Tajik independent expert Rustam Haidarov said in an interview with Asia-Plus, commenting on the issue of reforming and further development of the CIS.
As it had been reported earlier, the concept of further development of the CIS is expected to be considered at the CIS summit in Dushanbe tomorrow.
“Russia has been and remains gravitation center of the post-Soviet area. In case of disappearance of the center a chaos may come,” the expert said.
“As a matter of principle, the CIS should preserve both its form and structure but content of this structure should be changed,” said Haidarov, “The CIS ought to study experience of the European Union in resolving integration issues and there ought not to think up anything new in this field.”
According to him, principles used for formation of the European Union could become foundation of reforming the CIS.
