DUSHANBE, October 25, Asia-Plus -- Beginning from the next year, financing of the cotton sector in Tajikistan will be conducted under new system, Agriculture and Environmental Protection Minister Abdurahmon Qodiri remarked at a news conference in Dushanbe on October 25.
He reminded that President Emomali Rahmon announced that while addressing a meeting of the Khatlon regional administrators in Qurghon Teppa on October 16.
According to the minister, under the new financing system cotton-growing farms will be funded directly by banks serving them.
“We hope this system will allow using the provided funds more efficiently and raising cotton harvest productivity,” the minister said.
On the ongoing cotton-harvesting campaign, Qodiri said the country has yielded more than 370,000 tons of cotton to this day, which is 67.3 percent of this year’s national target, which has been determined at 550,000 tons. .
29,880 dehqan (peasant) farms now function in Tajikistan. Tajik cotton farmers now owe $410 million to domestic and foreign creditors.
