DUSHANBE, November 23, Asia-Plus  -- Fish shops are expected to open in Dushanbe next year.

According to the State Unitary Enterprise Mohiparvar (Tajik state-controlled fish breeding company), the capital mayor’s office has supported suggestion of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environmental Protection (MoAEP) to open shops in Dushanbe for realizing products of Tajik fish farms.   

“A special shop for realizing frozen fishes has already been opened at the Barakat market in Dushanbe,” said the source at a Mohiparvar, “A similar shop will also be opened at the Shomansour market soon.”    

Local fish farms will supply fish to Dushanbe.  11 fish farms have to date been registered with a MoAEP: open joint-stock company (OJSC) Plemkhoz A. Jomi in Jomi district; OJSC Guli Surkh in Jilikul district; fishing farm Chubek in Hamadoni OJSC Mohiparvar in Panjakent; OJSC Shukufon in Qairoqqum; limited liability company Forel in Vahdat, etc.  However, no one of them functions in full capacity. 

“Only OJSC Shukufon functions some 70 percent of its capacity, while others not more than 5-10 percent,” the source said.  

Over the first nine months of this year, Tajikistan has produced 130.4 tons of fishes, which is 4 tons more than in the same period of last year.  By the end of the year, this figure is expected to increase to more than 300 tons.  Last year, Tajikistan produced 214.5 tons of fishes.

In the Soviet time, Tajikistan had annually produced up to 3,500 tons of fishes.
