DUSHANBE, December 3, Asia-Plus -- Turkmen electricity has arrived in Tajikistan, Barqi Tojik (Tajik electricity systems) power holding said.
The source at Barqi Tojik said that at present Turkmen electrical power is supplied to Tajikistan at the rate between 2 million to 2.5 million KWh per day via a 220-kilovolt power transmission line from Turkmenistan’s Chorjou via Uzbek Qaraqul power station, while repairs to a 500-kilovolt power grid linking Turkmen Mary power station to Uzbek Qaraqul power station are still under way. “This link will be used for delivery of Turkmen electricity to Tajikistan at the rate of 10 million kWh per day during winter months,” the source said, reminding that under an agreement reached between Tajikistan and Turkmen the last will supply 1.2 billion kWh of electricity to Tajikistan this winter.
We will recall during a meeting in Dushanbe in early October, Tajik and Turkmen presidents announced that Tajikistan was going to import electricity from Turkmenistan during the winter months. Tajik President Emomali Rahmon said that Ashgabat, Dushanbe, and Tashkent had reached an agreement to deliver electricity from Turkmenistan to Tajikistan through neighboring Uzbekistan.
To solve its winter energy crisis Tajikistan has to import electricity from neighboring countries.
Tajikistan depends on Uzbekistan for much of its access to the outside world and import and transit of electrical power during winter months. According to Barqi Tojik, Uzbekistan is supposed to supply totaling 600 million kWh of electricity to Tajikistan this winter.
