DUSHANBE, December 5, Asia-Plus  -- $400 million have been provided so far for construction of the Sangtuda-1 hydroelectric power station (HPS), construction of which is funded by Russia’s Unified Energy Systems (RAO YeES).

Sergey Stepashin, Chairman of Russia’s Chamber of Accounts, remarked this Wednesday, while speaking to journalists on the site of the Sangtuda-1 station in Khatlon’s Danghara district.  

Stepashin arrived in Tajikistan Tuesday evening to inspect targeted use of funds provided from Russian federal budget to RAO YeES for construction of the Sangtuda-1 hydropower plant in Tajikistan.   

According to him, RAO YeES assumes 75 percent ownership in the Sangtuda-1 hydroelectricity projects and Tajikistan owns 25 percent of shares.   

“Russia’s Chamber of Accounts jointly with Tajikistan’s Agency for State Financial Control and Combating Corruption will inspect use of funds provided for construction of the facility,” said Stepashin, “I got evidence today that the funds are being used effectively.”

“There were some problems with delivery of cement, but they have already been tackled and cement is now delivered to the site opportunely,” the head of the Russian Chamber of Accounts said.   

He also told journalists that Russia intends to provide some $200 million for the project over the next two years.
