DUSHANBE, January 30, Asia-Plus -- Issues related to ongoing energy crisis in Tajikistan were discussed at a meeting of Foreign Minister Hamrokhon Zarifi with Mr. Michael Patrick John, Resident Coordinator of the United Nations in Tajikistan, that was held in Dushanbe on January 29according to Tajik MFA.
During the meeting, the two discussed issues of providing the population with electrical power as well as possible contribution of the UN to solution of problems facing the country.
The also considered issues related to an international conference that is expected to be held in Dushanbe in June 2008 to discuss water-related disaster risk reduction.
We will recall that the UN Resident Coordinator in Tajikistan, Michael Patrick John, presented a copy of his credentials to Tajik Foreign Minister Hamrokhon Zarifi on December 18, 2007.
Until January 2007, William Paton was the UN Resident Coordinator in Tajikistan. Alter that, Yerzhan Murat had been temporarily carrying out this duty.
