DUSHANBE, February 1, Asia-Plus  -- “There is no any misunderstanding between the Islamic Revival Party and the State Committee for National Security (GKNB),” Unhidden Kabuki, the head of the Islamic Revival Party (IRPT), said in an interview with Asia-Plus, commenting  on a report recently released by some media.

The report, in particular, says that a certain friction has arisen between leadership of the Islamic Party and Tajikistan’s security service.

According to Mr. Kabuki, such an allegation has probably arisen following his recent polemics with the GKNB chef Khairiddin Abdurahimov at the last session of the Majlisi Namoyandagon (Tajikistan’s lower chamber of parliament) during discussion of the bill on national security bodies. 

“We have got information that activity of our party is allegedly controlled by a special unit of the GKNB, which is engaged in combating terrorism and extremism,” said Kabiri, “I just suggested that if it is really so, this unit should control other political parties as well.”  

“Mr. Abdurahimov denied the information as unfounded and stressed that there cannot be any cause for concern because all Tajik officially registered political parties have equal opportunities,” said  the IRPT leader, “I consider my proposal quite natural and there ought not to make any sensation from it.  Who wants to be treated as potential terrorist?  Our party is recognized in society as moderate constructive political force, which has made and is making considerable contribution to the fight against extremism and terrorism.”

According to him, lack of systematic dialogue in society has become reason for such allegations.
