DUSHANBE, February 4, Asia-Plus  -- In 2007, Tajik nationals constituted 18.1 percent of a total number of CIS labor migrants working in Moscow, Russia’s newspaper Trud reported referring to Russia’s Federal Migration Service (FMS). 

The newspaper noted that the CIS labor migrants working in Moscow last year included primarily Ukrainians (27 percent), Uzbeks (18.8 percent), Tajiks (18.1 percent) and Moldova nationals (15.2 percent).  

According to FMS, one-third of labor migrants (31 percent) worked in the construction sector.  Tajik nationals constituted 4.5 percent of labor migrants working in the construction sector.    

In the trade sector, Tajik constituted 3.2 percent of guest workers.  

We will recall that according to Russia’s FMS, more than 640,000 Tajik labor migrants now work in the Russian Federation. 

More than 364,000 migrants were legalized in the Russian Federation in January-November 2007.

Last year, 2,236 Tajik guest workers were deported from Russian Federation for failing the register within three days on their arrival in Russia.  In the meantime, 365 bodies of migrant workers were returned to Tajikistan in 2007.  Sixty-nine of them were killed, which is 27 cases more than in 2006.
