DUSHANBE, February 6, Asia-Plus  -- With support of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria (Global Fund), Tajikistan’s Red Crescent Society (RCS) has launched a new project, which targets high-risk groups, particularly injecting drug users.  

Madina Sayfiddinova, information officer, RCS, said that the project is designed for 12 months with possible extension and aimed at decreasing HIV/AIDS rate among the high-risk groups through effective and concerted work within the framework of detriment reduction strategy.  

According to her, the project will be implemented in GBAO’s Shugnan, Ishkashim and Rushan districts as well as in Hissor (district subordinate to the center).

“The project targets some 60 percent of injecting drug users in the mentioned areas and will provide them access to prophylaxis, psychosocial services and primary medical aid,” the information officer said.
