DUSHANBE, February 22, Asia-Plus -- On Friday February 22, Saydullo Khairulloyev, Chairman of the Majlisi Namoyandagon (Tajikistan’s lower chamber of parliament), met with Ali-Asghar Sherdoust, Ambassador Plenipotentiary and Extraordinary of Iran to Tajikistan.
Muhammadato Sultonov, a spokesman for the Majlisi Namoyandagon, said that during the meeting, Khairulloyev had said that Tajikistan attaches significance to cooperation with Iran.
Briefing Iranian envoy on activity of the lower house of the parliament, Tajik speaker noted that a reliable legal foundation had been laid for development of the country’s economy and the government had adopted a series of programs aimed at supporting development of entrepreneurship, trade, education, health care, and culture.
On the bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and Iran, Khairulloyev stressed that construction of the Sangtuda-1 hydropower plant was evidence of the fact that Tajik-Iranian cooperation would expand in the future as well.
Dwelling on inter-parliamentary relations between the two countries, the Majlisi Namoyandagon speaker hailed a work of a group of friendship consisting of representatives from the Majlisi Namoyandgon and Iran’s Shura-ye Islami.
For his part, Mr. Sherdoust said that he would take efforts to promote further expansion of cooperation between the parliaments of the two countries.
