KHOROG, February 23, Asia-Plus -- 11,700 hectares of lands in Gorno Badakhshan have been allotted for plowed field, Imomdod Farhodov, the deputy head of the GBAO agriculture directorate, said in an interview with Asia-Plus.
According to him, cereals will be planted on 7,100 hectares, potatoes on 1,900 hectares, vegetables on 558 hectares, industrial crops on 77 hectares, and watermelons, melons and gourds on 17 hectares. The remaining 2,000 hectares have been allotted for annual grass crops and perennial herbs.
“We have already stocked 1,900 tons of grain seeds, 4,700 tons of seed potatoes and one ton of vegetable seeds,” the deputy head said, noting that sowing campaign in the region will be completed in June.
Farhodov added that actual volume of damage caused by cold weather to winter crops planted on 943 hectares has not yet been known. “Actual figures of damage will become known when crops come up,” he said.
