KHUJAND, February 28, Asia-Plus -- On Wednesday Febraury 27, as a result of accident, one of six units at the Qairoqqum hydropower plant in the Sughd province became unserviceable.
According to subsidiary of Tajik state energy company Barqi Tojik in Khujand, as a result of the accident, a volume of daily electrical power generated by the Qairoqqum station has been reduced from 2.5 million kWh to 1.98 million kWh.
The source at the Barqi Tojik subsidiary sad that a special commission had been set up to find out the cause of the accident and repair team would try to do everything to get the plant operating at maximum levels as soon as possible.
“Reduction in the volume of power generated by the Qairoqqum station has not affected the schedule of electricity supplies to residential customers and enterprises because shortage is compensated due to increase in the volume of electricity supplied to the province from international power systems,” the source said.
Thus, 3.708 million kWh of electrical power were supplied to Sughd yesterday, according to Barqi Tojik.
In the meantime, residential customers in the Sughd cities have only 2-3 hours of electricity per day, while residents of rural areas still remain cut off from electricity supplies.
