DUSHANBE, March 1, Asia-Plus -- A February 28 republican scientific-practical conference formally titled “Execution of Media Legislation in Tajikistan” resulted in adoption of an appeal to the president, the parliament, supreme and constitutional courts.
The conference, staged by the Homa Public Association under support of the UN Democracy Support Fund, discussed issues related to media licensing, protection of honor and dignity of journalists, access to information and legal state of journalists in Tajikistan.
Speaking in an interview with Asia-Plus, the Homa executive director Shahlo Akobirova said that the appeal had already been sent to president’s office and media organizations.
According to her, the appeal, in particular, notes that there are some shortcomings and uncertainties in the media legislation and that it does not work properly.
“In many cases, some ministries and organizations have been ignoring implementation of these laws,” said Akobirova, expressing hope that the conference would facilitate resolving some of these problems.
