KHUJAND, March 3, Asia-Plus - Resident of Dushanbe has been sentenced to 16 years in jail after having been convicted by a city court in Khujand on charge of drug trafficking.
The Khujand city court sentenced the Dushanbe resident Hazratqul Qurbonov to 16 years in prison on February 27. The sentence followed his conviction of drug trafficking. The court ruled that Qurbonov should serve his sentence in a high-security penal colony.
Judge Iso Tavakkalov, who took in the trail, told Asia-Plus that Qurbonov was detained in Sughd’s Istaravshan district on suspicion of having been involved in drug pushing last summer after more than 49 kilograms of raw opium and 938 grams of heroin were found in his car.
