DUSHANBE, March 3, Asia-Plus -- A monument to Lenin has been dismantled in Dushanbe.
The monument to Lenin in the Dushanbe Central Park on the night of March 1. In accordance with capital mayor’s resolution the monument was handed over to Tajikistan’s Arts Stock.
We will recall that the Dushanbe mayor’s office announced a tender for reconstruction of the Dushanbe Central Park last year already. Reconstruction is scheduled to be finished this year, and memorial complex to the founder of Tajik-Persian classic literature Abu Abdullo Rudaki will be installed in the park.
In the meantime, leaders of Tajikistan’s Communist Party (CPT) have repeatedly asked the Dushanbe authorities and the central government for permission to relocate the Lenin monument from the Dushanbe Central Park to the place in font of the building, which houses the CPT head office. The have noted that the party is ready to fund the relocation work itself.
The CPT leader Shodi Sahbdolov told Asia-Plus that they knew about the monument disablement only today morning. He expressed hope that the government will meet party’s halfway and comply with its request for relocation of the monument.
