DUSHANBE, April 3, Asia-Plus  --Tajikistan’ government is currently considering proposal of Afghan Foreign Minister Rangin Daftar Sepanta about opening of Tajik consulates in Afghanistan’s provinces of Badakhshan and Kunduz, according to the Tajik MFA.

Davlat Nazri, the head of the MFA information department, said, “The government is currently considering personnel and technical issues related to opening of consulates in Badakhshan and Kunduz.”

According to him, during a meeting of the foreign ministers of the two countries that was held in Dushanbe last month on the sidelines of a tripartite meeting of foreign ministers of Tajikistan, Afghanistan and Iran an agreement was reached on establishing Dushanbe-based Persian-language TV channel to broadcast in each country, intensifying economic and humanitarian cooperation, construction of Tajikistan-Afghanistan-Iran highway and a new railway link connecting Tajikistan and Afghanistan (from Tajikistan to the city of Torkham (phonetically spelled) on the Afghan-Pakistani border).     

We will recall that Afghanistan has consulate in Gorno Badakhshan.  The Afghan consulate was formally opened in Khorog, Gorno Badakhshan  in May 2003 following an agreement that was signed in late 2002.
