DUSHANBE, April 10, Asia-Plus  -- This year, some 50 percent of cotton fields in Tajikistan will be sown with new cotton growths nurtured by Tajik specialist, Asia-Plus has learned from Saidjamol Saidov, the director general of the research-production association Ziroatkor.  

According to him, cotton farmers have been recommended to plant new Tajik cotton growths such as Zarnigor, Hissor, Mehrgon, Sorbon, Sogd-2, Khuajnd-67 and the fine-fiber cotton growth 93-26 V on some 50 percent of cotton fields this year.  These growths will replace the growths that were nurtured by the Soviet specialists already, the director general said.

“The remaining 50 percent of cotton plantations will be sown with the cotton growths nurtured by Turkish and Uzbek specialists as well as the cotton growths that had been nurture in the Soviet time already,” Saidov said.  

“Last year, Tajik cotton farmers planted cotton growths nurtured by Tajik specialists on some 23 percent of cotton plantations and the results were very good,” the Ziroatkor head said, noting that the previous cotton growths “have already adapted to various agricultural viruses.”
