KUOB, April 11, Asia-Plus  -- A strict electricity rationing reintroduced in Khatlon’s Kulob region will be effective until April 13, Sharifkhon Samiyev, the director of Barqi Tojik (Tajik electric systems) power holding, said in an interview with Asia-Plus.   

The Barqi Tojik top manager, who yesterday was on a working visit to Kulob, said that the measures are connected with a decline in the water inflow in the Vakhsh River from 480 cubic meters per second on April 8 to 280 cubic meter per second.   According to him, the water inflow in the river has fallen because mountain snow has been melting very slowly.        

            “Therefore, we had to reintroduce rationing on April 8,” said Samiyev, “The measures have been introduced in all regions, including some areas of Dushanbe .”   

He further added that they had reached an agreement with Uzbekistan on supplying additional 100 million kWh to Tajikistan until the end of this week.   

In the meantime, heads of electric systems of all 10 districts of the Kulob region yesterday gathered in Kulob for an extraordinary meeting to discus the electricity shortage problem.  

Speaking in an interview with Asia-Plus, Mirzo Ismoilov, the head of the Kulob energy enterprise, said that practically all districts of the region have not received electricity supplies since April 8.   Only “strategic sites” in administrative centers of the districts have received normal power supplies, according to him.
