DUSHANBE, April 14, Asia-Plus -- The board of closed joint-stock company (CJSC) Babilon-Mobile, Tajik cellular operator, has denied reports released by some Russian media today that it has allegedly negotiated sale of its controlling stock to Russia’s open joint-stock company (OJSC) Mobile Telecommunications Systems (MTS) as “absolutely unfounded.”
Speaking in an interview with Asia-Plus, the Babilon-Mobile director general Behzod Fayzulloyev said that the company has not conducted any negotiations on selling its controlling stock with MTS or any other company.
“As far as the allegation that only MTS might save us from redivision of property is concerned, I may say that this process does not threaten us,” Mr. Fayzulloyev stressed, adding that he had not had an exclusive interview with Interfax reporter.
In the meantime, referring to Interfax, a number of Russian media reported on Monday that MTS is ready to purchase Tajik cellular operator Babilon-Mobile and “thereby save it from redivision of property.” MTS has allegedly been negotiating the purchase of a 60% stake in the Tajik cellular operator. Interfax noted that the sides has still failed to reach an agreement on the price.
