DUSHANBE, July 4, 2008, Asia-Plus -- A new state institution, which will unite media system in the country, is planned to be established in Tajikistan, Mahmoudkhon Sarayev, a chief specialist with the information analysis department within President’s Executive Office, said, adding that it cannot be ruled out that it will be the ministry of information.
Sarayev made this remark, while speaking at a republican conference entitled “Expansion of Free of Dialogue between Licensing Body and TV and Radio Organization on the Basis of Mutual Understanding” in Dushanbe on July 4.
Noting that, he referred to a news concept of Tajikistan’s national information policy that provides for establishment of such institution. This concept was endorsed on April 30, 2008.
According to Sarayev, the present situation, when press media are supervised by the Ministry of Culture and electronic media are supervised by the Committee for TV and radio-broadcasting, does not meet requirements of the national information policy. “This sphere is the ideological one, and therefore, we should combine efforts,” the Tajik official said.
The two–day conference is staged by Tajikistan’s Association of Independent Electronic Media (TajANSMI), the OSCE Center in Dushanbe, Internews-Network in Tajikistan, and the Friedrich Ebert Foundation, and its participants include representatives from president’s office, TV and radio organizations, political parties, experts and journalists.
