KHUJAND, July 22, 2008, Asia-Plus  -- In January-June this year, labor migrants, working outside the country, mainly in the Russian Federation, have remitted $301.852 million to banks in the Sughd province, which is 78 percent more than in the same period of 2007, Asia-Plus has learned from Abduvohid Raupov, the deputy head of the branch of the National Bank of Tajikistan (NBT) in Khujand.    

“In the first half-year of 2007, labor migrants had remitted $168.718 million to the Sughd banks,” said Raupov, “In the meantime, last month alone, $74 million were remitted to local banks.” 

According to the Sughd agency for statistics, the revenue part of the Sughd regional budget for January-June 2008 stood at 128.3739 million somonis (equivalent to $37.757 million).
