DUSHANBE, July 25, Asia-Plus -- The government has endorsed individual plans for restructuring four large state-run enterprises – joint-stock company Tojik Telecom (Tajikistan’s fixed-line telecommunications network), JSC Teleradiocom, national air carrier, TajikAir, and JSC Tojikkhimprom (Chemical plant in Yovon), Chairman of the State Committee for Investments and State-owned Property Management, Farrukh Hamraliyev, told a press conference in Dushanbe on July 24.
“Restructuring process provides for retirement of old equipment, introduction of new technologies and other measures to rehabilitate the enterprises,” said Hamraliyev, “For example, the restructuring of the national air carrier will be conducted gradually until 2009 and several separate enterprises will be established that will work with each other on the basis of contracts: air company, airport, navigation, etc.”
Hamraliyev noted that the government is expected to consider charters of TajikAir’s affiliates before the end of August and if they are approved, airports in Dushanbe, Khujand, Kulob and Qurghon Teppa will become independent economic entities.
“By government’s resolution each of the enterprises will be reorganized into a joint-stock company that will give foreign investors an opportunity to launch new air routes and purchase new aircraft,” Hamraliyev said.
