DUSHANBE, August 8, 2008, Asia-PLus - A new service center for customers of closed joint-stock company (CJSC) MLT/TT-Mobile (Mobile Lines of Tajikistan), which is one of Tajikistan’s largest cellular operators, was opened in Dushanbe.
According to MLT head office in Dushanbe, it is the fifth service center of the company in Dushanbe alone. Besides, MLT also has service centers in Gorno Badakhshan, Khatlon and Sughd provinces, as well as in some districts subordinate to the center.
MLT now has 412 dealer centers and many dealer outlets, with 159 of them located in Dushanbe.
The MLT press service says that the company currently has 200,000 active clients.
MLT offers its subscribers six tariff plans. One of them, Navin, was presented in Dushanbe on June 20, 2008.
Speaking at the presentation, the MLT director general Gulmahmad Qayumov noted that by the end of 2006, the number of subscribers to the cellular communications services had exceeded one million people with the penetration level of 6%. According to him, they expect the number of subscribers to reach 3 million before the end of this year with the penetration level of 42%.
According to him, over the last two years, the company has been conducting an active tariff police, which is aimed at providing its customers with high-quality and reliable cellular communications services. MLT plans to cover 80 percent of the country’s territory by mid-2009, the director general said.
Established in 2001, MLT/TT Mobile currently covers all four provinces of Tajikistan, operating in 40 cities and districts. The company currently has 200,000th clients.
MLT/TT Mobile is a joint venture between the Russian cellular operator MegaFon and Tajikistan’s national fixed-line operator, Tajik Telecom. MegaFon owns 75 percent of the shares and Tajik Telecom holds a 25 percent interest in MLT/TT-Mobile.
MegaFon, an open joint stock company, was founded in May 2002 with the renaming and reorganization of the Russian cellular operator North-West GSM.
MLT/TT Mobile was the first cellular operator in Tajikistan to offer its clients the 3G standard in 2005.
