DUSHANBE, August 20, 2008, Asia-Plus -- Tajik farmers have overfulfilled the target on intermediate sowing of different agricultural crops by nearly nine percent.
According to Narzullo Dadaboyev, a spokesman for the Ministry of Agriculture (MoA), the intermediate sowing campaign was carried out on the area of 109,040 hectares, which is 108.9 percent of the target.
“During the intermediate sowing campaign, maize has been planted on the area of 23,048 hectares, rice – 5,480 hectares, other cereals – 10,744 hectares, potatoes – 743 hectares, vegetables – 10,495 hectares, industrial crops – 1,303 hectares, watermelons, melons and gourds – 1,640 hectares, and forages – 55,726 hectares,” the spokesman said.
