QURGHON TEPPA, September 2, 2008, Asia-Plus  -- A ten-day campaign to involve local girls in the study was launched in the southern Khatlon province on September 1  and its results will be summed up after celebrations to mark Tajikistan’s Independence Day, which is marked on September 9, according to the Khatlon governor Ghaybullo Avzalov.  

According to the Khatlon education directorate, 83 percent of girls of school age attended schools in province last academic year.  The most serious situation has been reported in Vakhsh and Qumsangir districts, where only 59 percent and 70 percent of school-age girls attended classes respectively.  

The upcoming meeting to sum up the results of the mentioned campaign will also consider issues related the number of Khatlon youth that entered higher educational institutions this year.

“It is to be noted that speaking at one of meetings of regional administrators, the Khatlon governor noted that school leavers from Khatlon are expected to account for 40 percent of a total number of youth having entered higher educational institutions in the country this year,” the source at the education directorate said.
