KHUJAND, September 3, 2008, Asia-Plus  -- In northern Tajikistan, electricity rationing introduced on September 1 has hit only pump stations so far.  

Speaking in an interview with Asia-Plus, Muminjon Toshmatov, an official with Barqi Tojik’s branch in Sughd, said that electricity supplies to pump stations in all cotton-growing farms had reduced by 40 percent.    

 According to him, the supply of daily electricity to consumers in the province has been 12.3 million kWh, while the daily requirements of northern Tajikistan in electrical power amount to up to 15 million kWh.  

Of six units of the Qairoqqum hydroelectric power plant (HPP), only two currently operate, Toshmatov said.
