KHUJAND, October 8, 2008, Asia-Plus -- The law-enforcement authorities of the Sughd province have seized 756.641 kilograms of narcotics over the first nine months of this year, according to the Sughd prosecutor’s office. About half of it was heroin.
During the same nine-month period, local law-enforcement authorities revealed 218 cases of illicit drug trafficking.
Of the total amount, 310.465 kilograms of drugs, including 165.7 kilograms of heroin, 78 kilograms of raw opium, 64 kilograms of marijuana and 2 kilograms of other narcotics, have been seized by officers from the Sughd police directorate.
170 criminal proceedings on the drug-trafficking charges have been instituted in the province over the report period.
