KHOROG, October 15, 2008, Asia-Plus -- The Murgab district is the first in Gorno Badakhshan to fulfill the autumn conscription target, Asia-Plus has learned from Aslambek Aslamov, the deputy chief of the GBAO military registration and enlistment office.
According to him, Murgab is followed by Ishkashim, Shugnan and Rushan district. “Serious situation is currently in the city of Khorog and Darvoz and Vanj districts, which have reached only 7 to 20 percent of the autumn conscription target so far,” Aslamov said, noting that non-appearance of conscripts remains one of the main problems.
He noted that many conscript-age young men sought migrant work in the Russian Federation. “However, we intend to fulfill the conscription target by the time fixed,” Aslamov said.
In all, the Gorno Badakhshan Autonomous Region has reached 50 percent of the autumn conscription target by October 14.
