KHUJAND, October 31, 2008, Asia-Plus -- A session of the coordination council of the Sughd law enforcement agencies was held at the Sughd regional prosecutor’s office on October 30.
The meeting participants included senior representatives of local police, security, tax and customs services, prosecutor’s office and the health directorate, as well head physicians of the city and district hospitals and media.
Implementation of the country’s health care law was the focus of the meeting.
Speaking at the meeting, Karimullo Safarov, the head of the general supervision department within the Sughd regional prosecutor’s office, noted that negligent attitude of medical workers to their duties evokes serious concern. “There are cases, when medical workers’ negligent attitude caused death of patients,” said the prosecutor. “There are also cases, when persons with fake diplomas worked as physicians.”
Safarov gave a number of examples. “A, Niyozov, a physician with the first-aid station in the city of Chkalovsk, did not provide first aid to local resident Vyacheslav Belov and did not take measures for hospitalization of him. As a result, Belov died. Criminal proceedings were instituted against the physician and he was sentenced to two years in prison.”
Another such a case has been registered in the Spitamen district. “Local woman G. Aliboyeva came to the central district hospital in Spitamen to take medical advice over heavy breathing problems. The doctor was absent, while cleaner Tojiboyeva demanded polyclinic’s referral for hospitalization of Aliboyeva,” said Safarov, “Demands of Aliboyeva’s relatives to call the doctor were ignored and she died on the way to the polyclinic.”
