DUSHANBE, November 13, 2008, Asia-Plus  -- Uzbek authorities’ decision to quit the Eurasian Economic Community (EAEC) will not affect Tajik-Uzbek relations, Davlat Nazriyev, the head of the MFA information department said.  

According to him, enough legal foundation was laid for successful cooperation between the two countries in different fields.  

Commenting on Uzbekistan’s decision to withdraw from the Community, the MFA spokesman noted that each state had the right to participate or not participate in work of international and regional organizations.  

“Tajikistan and Uzbekistan have been building their relations both in bilateral format and within international and regional organizations such as the United Nations, the CIS, the Shanghai cooperation Organization (SCO) and the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO),” Nazriyev said.  

He also noted that Uzbekistan had notified other member nations of the Community that it was pulling out.  According to him, Tajikistan received such a notification from the EAEC coordination council on October 15 already.
