KHUJAND, November 25, 2008, Asia-Plus  -- The Qiaroqqum hydroelectric power plant (HPP) in the Sughd province has increased electricity productions.

According to the Qairoqqum HPP director Siroj Pouldov, it has become possible due to increase in water levels at the reservoir powering the station.

“Increase in the water levels has allowed introducing the fourth of six units of the station into operation,” the director said, noting that the power plant currently generates up to 1.320 million kWh of electrical power per day, which is 1,320 kWh more than in early November.

“In December 1, we intend to introduce the remaining two units into operation,” Poulodov said.  

However, the water deficiency problems remains topical as the rate of outflows from the Toktogul reservoir in Kyrgyzstan has reduced from 800 cubic meters per second in November 2007 to 539 cubic meters per second, he noted.  

The Qairoqqum HPP accounts for some 7 percent of the overall volume of electricity generated in the country.
