DUSHANBE, December 10, 2008, Asia-Plus -- Some 8,000 tons of cotton have been certified in Tajikistan in accordance with international standards, Asia-Plus has learned from Kamoljon Fathiddinov, a chief manager of closed joint-stock company (CJSC) Tajikistan-WIS (independent cotton inspection). 

According to him, the cotton has been certified at three labs for assessing of cotton fibers that that were recently opened under support of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) that has allocated funds for introduction of Universal Cotton Grading Standards in Tajikistan and establishment of the labs.

He noted that up-to-date high-speed machines HVI would be delivered to the labs in the near future.  “These machines will be purchased due a loan of US$1.112 million provided by the Asian Development Bank,” the chief manager said.

CJSC Tajikistan-WIS (Wakefield Inspection Services) is the Tajik-British joint venture.  It was established by government’s resolution of October 3 2006.  Working under international standards, the enterprise grants certificate of conformance for cotton fiber.
