DUSHANBE, December 23, 2008, Asia-Plus  -- An informal two-day summit of the CIS leaders at the Kazakh resort town of Borovoye has resulted in a decision to set up a joint anti-crisis fund of 10 billion US dollars. 

As it had been reported earlier, the presidents of Armenia (Serzh Sargsyan), Kazakhstan (Nursultan Nazarabyev), Kyrgyzstan (Kurmanbek Bakiyev), Russia (Dmitry Medvedev) and Tajikistan (Emomali Rahmon) attended the meeting that was held on December 19-20.

The presidents discussed a broad range of issues related to strengthening of the collective security system within the framework of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), joint efforts to mitigate effects of the global financial crisis and strengthen regional integration.  The meeting participants reached agreements on different cooperation issues.

According to information posted on website of Kazakh presidential press service, the presidents, in particular, agreed to establish a joint anti-crisis fund of 10 billion US dollars that will be used to support efforts to mitigate effects of the global financial crisis.

The sides also agreed to set up a center of high technologies for joint development and implementation of innovative projects, Kazakh presidential press service said, noting that documents to lay legal foundation of agreements reached at Borovoye are expected to be adopted at the nearest CIS summit.
