DUSHANBE, January 6, 2009, Asia-Plus -- Hydropower plants subordinate to Barqi Tojik (Tajik electric systems) power holding generated more than 14 billion kWh of electricity last year, which is 2 billion kWh more than in 2007, according to the Barqi Tojik engineer-in-chief Rashid Gulov.
According to him, some 20 million kWh of electrical power were generated last year by 101 small hydroelectric power plants with a total capacity of 4,500 kW.
Another 1.1 billion kWh of electrical power were generated by the Russian-built hydropower plant Sangtuda-1.
Besides, Tajikistan imported 1.9 billion kWh of electricity during autumn-winter 2007-2008, the engineer-in-chief said.
In 2008, Tajikistan exported some 1 billion kWh of electrical power.
