KHUJAND, February 5, 2009, Asia-Plus - In January 2009, officers from the Sughd police directorate seized nearly 77 kilograms of narcotics, which is 74 kilograms more than in the same period of last year, when only 2.5 kilograms of drugs were seized by local police, Nasim Olimov, chief of the information analysis department within the Sughd police directorate, said in an interview with Asia-Plus.
A totaled included nearly 34 kilograms of heroin and more than 42 kilograms of cannabis.
“19 criminal proceedings were instituted on drug charges last month,” Olimov said.
