DUSHANBE, February 16, 2009, Asia-Plus -- A session of the Energy Council of Unified Energy System of Central Asia was held in Tashkent on February 13.

Asia-Plus has failed to get any information about the session at Tajikistan’s relevant bodies.  In the meantime, BBC’s Persian Service reported on February 16 that ongoing energy crisis in Tajikistan was among major topics of the meeting.

The session participants, in particular, expressed concern that energy crisis in Tajikistan might negatively impacted work of the unified energy system of the region.  During the meeting, it was noted that water levers at the reservoir powering the Norak hydroelectric power station might decline to the critical level in mid-February that might lead to unauthorized use of electrical power from the unified system.

As it had been reported earlier, Tajikistan now receives 500,000 to 1.5 million kWh of electricity from the regional energy system per day.
