DUSHANBE, February 17, 2009, Asia-Plus  -- On Tuesday February 17, Yoshihiro Nakayama, Chargé D’Affaires, the Embassy of Japan in Dushanbe, handed over medical equipments to the Central Hospital of the Ministry of Interior (MoI), press release issued by the Japanese Embassy in Dushanbe said.

Government of Japan has granted US$80,500 worth of medical equipments under the Grassroots Human Security Project.  High-ranking officials from the Ministry of Interior Affairs attended the ceremony.

Japan’s Government allocated US$ 80,500 for the project “Preparation of Medical Equipment to the Central Hospital of the Ministry of Interior Affairs”.

As one of the major medical institutions in Dushanbe, the Central Hospital of the Ministry of Interior Affairs (MIA) intakes more than 3000 patients monthly from Dushanbe and remote areas of the country. In order to improve its medical service for patients, the Central Hospital of MIA has installed a wide range of new 14 different types of medical equipments provided by the Government of Japan, such as Ophthalmoscope, Portable Ultrasound, Electroencephalography, Echo Encephalography, Dental Drilling Machine, X-ray Machine, Gastro Scope, Bronchial Scope. These equipments will be used by the doctors and other medical workers to provide modern and quality medical service to their patients. Prior to the implementation of the Project, each department of the Central Hospital was equipped with out-dated and deteriorated medical devices.

Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects (GGP) is provided mainly to local governments, NGOs, and educational and medical institutions in developing countries. GGP provides support to projects in the human security sectors at the grassroots level. GGP has extended the total of US$13,689,128 for 215 projects in the Republic of Tajikistan since 1996.
