KHUJAND, February 24, 2009, Asia-Plus -- Labor migrants’ remittances to banks in the northern Sughd province have been decreasing.
According to the branch of the National Bank of Tajikistan (NBT) for Sughd, labor migrants remitted 28.8 million US dollars to banks in the province in January 2009, which was 8.3 million dollars, or 20 percent, fewer than in January 2008. In January 2008, labor migrants remitted 37.1 million US dollars to banks in northern Tajikistan.
The source at central bank’s branch noted that exchange arte regime was gradually stabilizing in the region. At present, the exchange rate of the dollar against the somoni is 1:3.85 and branches of banks here had enough currencies.
